Julius, the son of a wealthy Roman, is torn between his interest in Christian life, his passions, his family, and his social responsibilities. But toward the end of his life he goes to the Christians and finds happiness.

Julius is the son of a wealthy Roman. He is used to a life of luxury. His father doesn’t want to give him any. Julius reflects on how low he has fallen.

He remembers his friend Pamphylia, a Christian, and decides to go to them. On the way he meets a stranger who dissuades him and proposes marriage.

As time passes, Julius marries and takes up a trade. One day he meets Pamphilius, asks about Christian life and attitudes toward marriage, but returns to his life.

Ten years pass. Julius’s father died and children were born. He became cold to his wife and had a mistress. One day at the games he fell from his chariot, and while he was sick he lost his elected position and his mistress. He wanted to go to the Christians again, but the doctor suggested that he take over the upbringing of his children.

The persecution of Christians began. Julius again argued with Pamphilius.

The years passed. Julius’ wife died. Julius’s sons became troublemakers. Once he hit his son hard, he realized he’d been living wrong. Now no one could talk him out of it. He comes to the Christians, gathers grapes with them, and finds his happiness.
