The main character of the work is Leopold Ulysses.

This resident of Ireland was of Jewish descent. Ulysses was born in the territory of Dublin. Joyce shares with readers a description of a day in the life of the aforementioned member of the stronger sex.

On June 16, 1904, Leopold decided to visit various locations in the Irish capital. On that day he was able to visit the local publishing house, various places of entertainment in the city, the funeral of a good friend, the gulf coast, and the maternity home. In the latter building was the introduction of the protagonist to Stephen Daedalus, who was young and held the position of teacher in an educational institution in Dublin. On that summer day, Ulysses even managed to find himself in a brothel.

Leopold’s adventures ended inside his own home. However, he did not return to his home alone — together with Daedalus, who was intoxicated and had lost the roof over his head.
