The young modest and beautiful Ida is raised in austerity. She doesn’t go out with boys, but helps her parents by working in their store.

But at fifteen, she falls in love with a young man, Ed, a local dandy and ladies’ man. He seduces the girl, and when she gets bored with Ed, he dumps her. Ida discovers that she is pregnant.

She tries to win her lover back and force him to marry her. When that fails, she decides to scare Ed with her father’s revolver. Inadvertently, Ida shoots the young man and fatally wounds him.

The girl is arrested. Ed dies, but before he dies he admits that he deceived Ida. The public intervenes on behalf of the pregnant girl. She is paroled until she gives birth, then she is acquitted.

Ida still loves Ed; she cannot bear the thought that she killed him. The girl arrives at the site of their rendezvous and commits suicide.
