The narrative protagonist was sitting in a Georgetown bar drinking rum. Sitting next to him were three of his comrades, Smith, Bob, and Ivan. All were looking at a map of Guiana and had been trying for hours to choose a place for their journey. Finally the protagonist decided to ask Ivan, who had been silent for a long time, about his thoughts on the matter. He replied that Bob, Smith and the protagonist should go to Adventure.

Bob and the protagonist asked Ivan again. The latter stated that Edvencher was a small village near the mouth of the Essekibo River. In the end it was decided to go to that particular place.

Some time later, Bob, Smith and the main character made their way down to the town wharf. Upon arriving there, the protagonist bought three first-class tickets to Adventure at the ticket office. Soon the trio carelessly dumped their gear on the deck and began to admire the local scenery.
