At one time the three friends, George, Jerome, and Garris, met under one roof to decide on their planned adventures away from home.

Garris, reading his comrades’ minds, stated that they should take a break from the hustle and bustle of home and have a change of scenery. He added that George offered to tell his wives of the alleged need to go away «on business.» Harris thought such a suggestion was a very bad option-he cited the example of one acquaintance of his who had to go with his wife to Vienna and do useless business there. All this happened because of the negligent husband’s inability to come up with a beautiful legend.

Jerome offered all the details of a confession to the couple that they wanted a break from family cares. Harris did not want the writer to be so meticulous about his own wife Ethelbert’s upcoming plans.

George intervened in the conversation — he suggested that the comrades confess everything honestly. If they did not agree to it, he would tell his wives himself.
