D’Artagnan, a Gascon nobleman, travels to Paris to join a regiment of musketeers. On the way, he gets into a fight with Count Rochefort, who is a close associate of Cardinal Richelieu, and steals a letter of recommendation.

The captain refused to give d’Artagnan a place until he showed his valor or served in the regiment of guards. On the same day, the Gascon accidentally insulted three musketeers, and they challenged him to a duel.

At noon D’Artagnan appeared in the wasteland where the battle was to take place, but the duelists were prevented by the Cardinal’s Guards. They tried to arrest the participants for violating the law of duels. D’Artagnan unites with his opponents and defeats the guards. Thereafter, the Musketeers become friends with D’Artagnan.

The Gascon takes up residence with a haberdasher. He soon falls in love with his wife Constance, the Queen’s lady-in-waiting. The Queen gives the Duke, hopelessly in love with her, the pendants she had received from the King, and the Cardinal becomes aware of this.
