In one village there was a store called Ginger and Pickle. It sold just about everything except little things like stilettos and shoe spoons. The store was named after its owners, a red cat named Ginger and a brown terrier named Marinade.

It was doll-sized, and dolls often went into it to buy themselves lollipops. Peter the rabbit and his whole family also frequented the shop. Forest mice and rats also stopped by the store. The owners could hardly restrain themselves from eating their customers.

Ginger and Marinade’s place stood out because it offered goods on credit to anyone who wanted them. Because of this, there were always queues and trade was better than at Tabitha’s cat store next door.

The owners had little money, so they ate food from their store. One day it was time to buy Marinade a license for hunting dogs. The hero had no money for it, and he feared he would be caught by a policeman. The friends ended up going bankrupt and were forced to close up store.
