The main character is fifteen-year-old teenager Kevin Deleven. Kevin received a Polaroid «Sun 660» camera as a birthday present. But no matter what the kid takes pictures of, the camera gives out pictures of a big black dog.

Kevin asked Mr. Merrill, nicknamed Pop, to fix the camera. He was interested in the phenomenon and suggested the boy keep taking pictures. The footage was later edited into film, showing the dog approaching its owner and about to lunge at him. Kevin decided to destroy the camera, but Pop switched it. The boy smashed the other camera.

Meanwhile, Merrill got addicted to the Polaroid and continued taking pictures until the dog broke free and mauled him. The dog wanted to kill Kevin as well, but the boy shot it with another camera and was able to drive the dog into a two-dimensional world.

A year later, Kevin was given a computer. One day the printer turned itself on and printed a picture of the black dog.
