Queen Leda and Zeus had twins Castor and Pollux. The brothers had been very friendly since childhood. As they grew and matured, they became powerful and brave warriors, worthy sons of their father. They took part in many heroic campaigns, where they won glory and honor.

Both brothers fell in love with Leucippus’ daughters, Gileira and Theba. Captivated by the girls’ beauty, the warriors decided to kidnap them. But Gilaera and Theba already had Idas and Linkei as their suitors.

On learning of the bride-napping, they challenged the twins to a fight. Castor fell defeated by the arrow of his opponent. Seeing this, Zeus intervened in the battle, striking the young men who dared to oppose his sons.

Pollux asked his mighty father to bring his brother back to life. But Zeus offered his son a choice: become an immortal Olympian or share Castor’s burden, staying with him for six months in Hades and the other six months on Olympus. Pollux did not hesitate to choose the second option.
