The artist Holloword painted a portrait of the handsome and kind young man Dorian Gray. He exclaimed: I wish the change of time had concerned the portrait and not himself! And so it happened.

Dorian fell under the bad influence of Lord Wotton, became arrogant and angry. He pushed away the actress Sybilla Vane, who was in love with him. The girl put her hands on herself. Dorian saw that the portrait had changed — the mouth of the man depicted began to curve into an evil grin.

Dorian’s eyes went lower and lower. He faced Hallward. The artist said that actions affect one’s appearance. Dorian showed the portrait he had painted. No sooner had the artist marveled than Gray killed him.

Sibylla’s brother came out to him years later, wanting to avenge his sister. But Dorian convinced him that he was not Gray, because he looked 20 years old.

The man looks at the portrait with horror and sees an ugly old man. Dorian tries to mend his ways, but can’t. In a fit of rage, he plunges a knife into the painting — and dies himself. In the morning, they find the entire portrait of a handsome young man and the corpse of an ugly old man.
