Noah Calhoun was poor, and Ellie Nelson’s upper-class mother could not allow her daughter to tie her life to his. Ellie came to the land where Noah lived for summer vacation. They said goodbye on the shore of the lake in a beautiful house. Noah promised to get rich and buy the house. He wrote to his beloved, but Ellie’s mother hid those letters.

After the war, Ellie became an artist. Having met a young lawyer Lon Hammond, she agreed to marry him. But the emotional connection with the groom Ellie did not have. Lon put his career above his personal life.

Noah bought the house and renovated it. But he saw Ellie in the company of a rich dandy and realized that her heart was engaged. He took a picture in front of the house and posted the photo as an advertisement for the house. Ellie saw the paper and drove to the lake. Upon meeting, Noah and Ellie realized they loved each other.
