The first thing the protagonists go to the library, which was the last place of the deceased in our world. The abbot of the monastery, named Abbon, denies the visiting guests access to the book repository, although according to one version, Adelm fell out of the library window. Unwilling to give up so easily, Wilhelm and Adson still make it to the coveted location at night, but encounter many obstacles that force them to leave the location.

The next night, Adson goes to the book depository alone. Later, he goes to the kitchen, where he meets a girl, with whom he later becomes intimate.
