Canon Simplicius is in great confusion. The only person with whom he can discuss the unique situation is Dr. Wojcik. It was Dr. Woyczek who determined the cause of the strange affliction that suddenly afflicted the canon.

During a solemn Mass on the occasion of St. Peter’s Day, Simplicki first feels an unusual weakness and dizziness. A few months later, the priest begins to notice some kind of heaviness inside his womb. He grows dramatically fuller. Dr. Voychek, concerned about his friend’s condition, suggests surgical intervention.

Having recovered from anesthesia, Simplicki learns that he has given birth to a son. Woyczek is the only witness to the miracle. And, of course, he will keep everything a secret. On his deathbed, the canon confesses to his grown son who his parents are: Simplicki himself is the mother and his father is Archbishop Benedict.
