Laureate prepares to die. But that doesn’t happen in any way. Instead of Schwitter, several of his visitors die: the pastor, the painter, his young wife, and her mother.

At one point, he seemed to die, but a few minutes later came back to life again. With his resurrections, Schwitter ruined the life of the doctor who had ascertained his death, ruined his son’s life, and managed to destroy his inheritance.

The man is not happy with his resurrections, he dreams of dying. So when a Salvation Army major arrives and proclaims the laureate a godsend, Schwitter strangles him. Then he lies down, once again hoping to die.
