Reporter Melone embarks on an expedition with Professor Challenger. The scientist wants to prove the existence of prehistoric fauna. Together with them, the intrepid Lord John Rockston and the skeptical Professor of Anatomy Summerly embark on the journey.

The expedition reaches the shores of the Amazon. With great difficulty the men discover the habitat of prehistoric animals. Many adventures and dangers await them: the group is attacked by pterodactyls, taken captive by man-monkeys. But the travelers successfully fight off the predators, destroy the man-monkeys and rescue the Indians they trafficked, and find a diamond placer.

They return to London. The travelers share the diamonds they find. Professor Challenger creates a sensation at a scientific meeting by showing scientists a living pterodactyl.
