The author describes a certain space that is the embodiment of all life. This is where bodies wander. The place is a compressed cylinder, 50 meters in circumference and 16 meters high. It is so free that the search usually proves futile, and so cramped that all attempts to escape fail.

The inhabitants of this space S. Beckett calls simply «bodies. Some of them are well acquainted, related or friendly, while others have never met before.
This whole world is flooded with yellow light, there are many mechanisms, gears and ladders. But all the ladders are broken-somewhere one rung is missing, somewhere two or three or four. Some inhabitants of the cylinder believe there is a way out. It is most likely a hatch hidden in the ceiling. Others have lost all hope. The existence of human bodies is worthless.
