A trilogy consisting of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Fortresses, and The Return of the King. Chronologically, the action takes place after The Hobbit, or The Journey There and Back Again.

Frodo the Hobbit inherited the Ring of Omnipotence from his uncle Bilbo. It made invisible whoever put it on his finger, but also gradually subjugated the will of the ring’s owner. The white wizard Gandalf persuaded Frodo to show the Ring in Rivendell to the Council of the Peoples of Middle-earth. Along with Frodo goes to the land of the elves the faithful Sam, as well as the pranksters Merry and Pippin.

The Lord of the Ring of Omnipotence, the evil Sauron, has learned that Frodo has his ring. He sends the Nazgûl to the Shire. Frodo is wounded, but is cured by the elfess Arwen. The council decides to destroy the Ring to rob Sauron of his power. This can only be done on Mount Orodruen, where it was forged.

Frodo has volunteered to deliver the Ring. Along with him go the hobbits, the men Aragon and Boromir, the elf Legolas and the dwarf Gimli. After many adventures, Frodo completes his mission.
