The serf Akim bought a plot of land in the name of the landlady and built an inn. He was a farm man, the yard brought income, and Akim regularly paid the baroness a tribute.

After visiting the landlady’s estate, Achim fell in love with her maid, Avdotya. The landlady did not want to let the employee go, but eventually she allowed the couple to marry.

Family happiness was interrupted by Naum, a retail salesman. He seduced Avdotya. Their affair lasted two years. After that he forced the woman to steal money from her husband and bring it to him.

He himself went to the landowner, the mistress of the serf Akim. And he bought his own inn from her with his money. Akim had already begun to hear some rumors about Naum and Avdotya. When the trader came back to the inn, he refused to see him. Nahum then showed him the deed of purchase.

Struck by the woman´s injustice, Akim wanted to set fire to the inn, but was seized in time. In prison he changes spiritually. He sells off what is left of his possessions and goes on a wander.
