Prince Myshkin is a man of exceptional kindness and purity. He tries to save Nastasia Philippovna and the merchant Rogozhin from destructive passions. When the merchant kills the girl, the prince goes mad.

The young Prince Myshkin returns to Russia. On his way home, he meets the rich merchant Parfen Rogozhin, who tells him of his passion for Nastasia Philippovna.

The Prince stops at the Yepanchins’ and meets their daughters, Alexandra, Adelaide, and Aglaia. The whole family is struck by Myshkin’s spontaneity, nobility and kindness.

By chance he meets Nastasia Philippovna. She is considered to be a corrupt woman, and only Myshkin feels pity for the girl. He awakens love in her soul.

Nastasia Philippovna is caught between Myshkin and Rogozhin.

The Prince becomes the bridegroom of Aglaia Yepanchina. But Nastasia Philippovna asks the Prince to stay with her. Out of pity, Myshkin agrees.

The wedding of Myshkin and Nastasia Philippovna is prepared. But she runs off with Rogozhin to St. Petersburg. The merchant kills the woman. The Prince goes mad.
