Sabina tells Valera that her uncle wants to marry his daughter Lucille to Villebrecken. In order to postpone the wedding, his beloved is forced to fake an illness.

Sabina suggests to Valera that he send his valet to Lucille under the guise of a doctor. He orders the girl to rest in a distant tent. Then Valer can come and kidnap her, and then they will marry in secret.

Valer tells Sganarel the plan. Lucille’s father sends his valet to fetch a physician for his daughter. The servant begs his master not to force Lucile to marry the old man. At that time Sabina brings Sganarel under the guise of a doctor. The latter advises the heroine to rest in a distant tent.

When Sganarel removes his medical disguise, he accidentally meets Lucille’s father. The chamberlain introduces himself as the doctor’s twin brother so as not to arouse his suspicions. He makes up a quarrel with his brother. Later, Sganarel reclaims the doctor’s outfit. Lucille’s father tries to reconcile the brothers, not realizing they are the same person.
