The main character is a 16-year-old girl named Hazel. She suffers from manifestations of thyroid cancer. To find support, on her mother’s recommendation, Hazel attends a meeting of a group whose members have cancer and, therefore, help each other in any way they can.

At the meeting, she sees a boy named August, who has lost one leg to cancer. August himself has come to support his companion Isaac, who is suffering from eye cancer. August and Hazel decide to exchange their favorite books. After a while, the young man, after reading the book given to him by Hazel, declared to his friend that the work concludes without a conclusion. The girl replied that the man who had written the novel had gone to the capital of Holland, after which he disappeared from public view.

Seven days later, August tells Hazel that he was able to find out the location of the writer’s assistant. After talking to her, he began to correspond with the author of the book. The latter stated that he would only be able to answer the guys’ questions in person.
