The three children, Conrad, Ivan and Emma, went into the woods one sunny winter day. Emma was feeding nuts to squirrels, birds, and mice, while her brothers were busy building a snow fort. As the children were walking back home, they decided to go ice skating on the frozen pond located in the village of Middlemastin.

By five o’clock in the evening, the sky darkened and a heavy snowstorm began. Ivan, Emma, and Conrad returned home, where their mother, Mrs. Dollybat, was waiting for them. The latter had prepared many delicacies for her children. After a hearty dinner, the children sat by the fireplace and remembered their time with their great-uncle Lancelot.

Soon the children heard a noise coming from the street from a man who needed help. Emma, Conrad, and Ivan went outside and rescued the freezing traveler, who turned out to be Lancelot. Grandpa told his nephews that his time machine had been stolen. The children decided to help Lancelot.
