One Easter day a huge bull, nicknamed Adam Engelbreckt, broke free. The animal was living in one of Smoland’s cattle yards. Although Adam was considered a giant, he was a very kind and gentle bull. He was looked after by the elderly cattleman Svensson.

The shepherd could not understand why the meek bull suddenly decided to run away. He rushed through the barnyard with such a ferocious look that Svensson did not dare to stop him. He was frightened and ran away from the animal like a madman.

After leaving the barn, the bull was in the farmstead, which was surrounded on all sides by a fence. Svensson managed to run out of the manor through the gate, but the bull Adam remained inside.

At the gate of the manor house the owners, their children, and the workers had gathered. They all looked at the rampaging bull and did not know what to do with him. The rumor of an escaped Adam was spreading through the neighborhood. Crowds of people come to the cattle yard to watch the spectacle. While the peasants decide whether to put the rampaging bull to sleep, seven-year-old Kalle manages to tame the animal.
