Continuation of the novel «Consuelo». The main character is widowed. It wasn’t until after Albert’s death that she realized she loved him. Consuelo left the castle. She hid her title of Countess Rudolstadt and took the pseudonym of Porporina to continue her musical career.

In Berlin, the singer found herself embroiled in a palace conspiracy. In addition, she often meets a man who is strikingly similar to her deceased husband. From this Consuelo’s psyche is unhinged.

The King of Prussia decides that the singer is mixed up in a plot against him. He banishes her to the prison of Spandau. There she receives letters from a stranger, who arranges her escape.

Consuelo falls in love with her savior. He delivers her to the Masonic lodge. The stranger in the mask turns out to be Consuelo´s husband. He is not dead, but has fallen into a lethargic sleep. And his mother hid him by burying an empty coffin.

But Albert was considered an impostor and imprisoned. At the end of the novel we meet the wandering Rudolstadt family, fed by loyal peasants.
