Paul Verlaine was once suggested by some acquaintances that he should transpose his entire life onto the sheets. One of the proposers mentioned such a word as «notes» in reference to an autobiographical work.

In relation to his own works the word «notes» seemed to the writer too pompous. However, the idea seemed tempting to the poet. Which led to the beginning of writing a work that touches on his entire life path.

The poet remembered 1844, which is the beginning of his life. The most vivid memory from Paul’s childhood are the streets of Paris. He also recalls the lack of desire to grow up and study science. But despite his reluctance to gnaw at the granite of science, as a child Paul Verlaine loved to explore the world around him.

Growing up, Paul became a regular participant in various drinking parties with his comrades. There was a place in his life for women. It was then that he began to engage in creativity.

But everything changes dramatically after the poet falls in love with one.
