Jacques Renier owned a café on an island in Peru where birds came from other islands to die. One morning he rescued a girl who had almost been hit by a wave.

The girl said she didn’t want to go on living. Rainier allowed her to stay with him. She told him that she had been to a carnival and that three men had kidnapped and raped her.

Two men entered Rainier’s house: Roger, an Englishman, and Mario, his secretary. Roger explained that the girl suffered from nymphomania and suggested that she see Professor Guzman.

The girl left. When she turned around, she saw no one in the café.
