At the request of the English government, Holmes searches for a stolen diamond. He deftly tricks the thieves and returns the stone.

Holmes is approached by the government of England, asking him to find the stolen crown diamond, known as the «Mazarini Stone.»

Holmes knows that the diamond was stolen by Count Silvius. But Holmes does not know where the stone is. He follows the criminals and knows that the count wants to kill him. To avoid being killed, the detective places a dummy, which is an exact copy of him, near the window.

Sylvius comes to Holmes with his assistant. The detective offers the bandit a deal — he returns the diamond, and Holmes does not give it to the authorities.

Holmes gives the criminal time to think and leaves for another room. Sylvius shows him the diamond and tells him about his plans to take it abroad. Holmes, unnoticed by the criminals, changes places with the dummy and suddenly takes the stone and points the gun at Sylvius.

The stunned criminals are arrested by the police.
