Old friends Don Diego and Don Gomez are about to join their children, Rodrigo and Jimena, in marriage. But due to an unexpected quarrel, the engagement is broken off, and the two families become blood enemies.

Don Diego and Count Gomez, glorious grands and loyal servants to the king, are about to marry their children, Rodrigo and Jimena, who love each other. But old friends quarrel when the king favors the wise Don Diego in raising the heir. Count Gomez is mortally offended and slaps Diego in the face. Old Diego himself cannot cope with the Count, and orders his son to take vengeance on his adversary. The betrothal is broken off.

Rodrigo is torn between love and duty, but still kills the Count in a duel. Jimena, despite her feelings for Rodrigo, asks the King to take revenge on her father’s murderer. The king decides that the young man will stand trial. Rodrigo secretly sneaks into the house of Jimena, and the young people meet and confess that their love has not faded.

An army of Moors approaches Seville and Rodrigo leads a detachment of brave men to drive the enemy away. The King forgives Rodrigo, but Ximena insists on revenge. A duel occurs between Don Sancho, who is in love with the girl, and Rodrigo. Rodrigo emerges victorious, and in the final scene he marries Jimena.
