After defeating Kronos, Zeus freed his brothers Hades and Poseidon. The thunderer made them the supreme gods of Olympus. He gave the underworld to Hades, Poseidon became the sole ruler of the seas.

The palace of the sea god lies at the very bottom of the grey ocean. There he lives with his wife Amphitrite, the daughter of Nereus. Poseidon, once enraptured by the girl’s beauty, kidnapped her from her father.

The god and the nereid married. After some time they had a son, Triton. Like Poseidon, the young man had a talent for the poetry of the sea. As soon as the young god blows his trumpet from his shell, a fierce storm breaks out on the sea. Seeing the mischief of his son, Poseidon restrains the obedient waves with his trident.

Every day the god rises to the surface of the sea in his chariot. In power and majesty he is not inferior to the thunderer himself. At his side sits his royal wife, the beautiful Nereid Amphitrite.
