The work consists of two parts.

In the 1st, the tragedy «Elections», the author shows a rehearsal in front of a limited number of spectators of the play «Elections». In grotesque form the bribing of voters by the candidates is mocked. The critics and writers present at the rehearsal throw in their lines and comments as well.

Part 2, the comedy «The Life and Death of Common Sense,» presents in the same grotesque and allegorical form the play about the war of the wise and fair queen Common Sense against her rival, the queen of Ignorance.

Despite everyone’s clamor for intelligence and enlightenment, the queen is assassinated by her own courtiers—politicians, judges, and priests. But she rises from the dead and overthrows Ignorance.
