The main character is a member of the younger generation, whose name was Oliver Twist.

His mother passed away during childbirth, and then her child ended up in an orphanage. The institution was not at all wealthy, and for this reason its inmates often starved. The comrades, knowing the strong character of young Oliver, asked him to take a supplement to a very meager meal. However, the management of the orphanage did not appreciate the boy’s rebelliousness and sent him for training in an office for the manufacture of coffins, in which Twist began to be bullied by a senior apprentice. Subsequently, the protagonist got into a fight with the latter.

He later escaped to the British capital, where he was accepted into a criminal gang. Later that one made several unsuccessful attempts at robbery.

Later the head of the gang — Feigin — is sentenced to death, and Oliver himself starts to live comfortably in the house of Mr. Brownlow — the man who helped him to get on the right way.
