Among the conspirators was the main character of the work, Messalina. The latter was the wife of Claudius, who in turn was the uncle of the aforementioned usurper.

In January 41, the conspirators, led by Cassius Heredia, broke into Caligula’s palace and liquidated the latter.

Claudius subsequently assumed the office of emperor of the Roman Empire. Messalina eventually fell in love with her own husband. The woman began to have feelings for the handsome and at the same time rich Gaius Sylius. The beautiful woman herself soon passed away.
