At the instigation of the brides, the guys beat up the boatman. He sues. The Kyojin men start a squabble here. Tired of their bickering, the assistant judge grooms all the grooms and brides so that the conflict is over.

The Chioggian women sit outside their homes and weave lace. Donna Pasqua and Donna Libera are waiting for their husbands from fishing, Lucetta and Orsetta for their grooms. The boatman Toffalo passes by and tries to talk to young Kekka, but she does not want to communicate.

Then the boy befriends Lucetta. When the boatman leaves, Kekka accuses Lucetta of levity. An active altercation ensues.

When the men return, the women complain about each other. The grooms are outraged at the behavior of the brides and the boatman. One of the guys beats up Toffalo. The boatman complains to the assistant judge. He tries to resolve the matter peacefully, but the Chioggins quarrel again.

The assistant magistrate is so fed up with their quarrels that he quickly brushes off Kekka for the boatman. Lucetta and Orsetta reconcile with the suitors and prepare to become their wives. Preparations begin for three weddings at once.
