Professor Lydenbrock discovers a secret message left by an Icelandic alchemist in a 12th-century manuscript. The alchemist claims to have found the way to the center of the Earth, located in the vent of a volcano in Iceland.

Lidenbrock decides to see for himself the truthfulness of the message. Together with his nephew Axel he sets out on an exciting journey to the center of the Earth. In Iceland the travelers hire a guide, who becomes the third participant in the dangerous but fascinating trek.

Descending into the mouth of a volcano, the heroes find themselves in a cave. Here before their eyes opened incredible pictures. Before the travelers unfolds an underground sea, which they overcome on a makeshift raft. The travelers witness the battle of the ancient lizards: ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs. On the opposite shore of the sea, the heroes find huge mushrooms, bizarre plants and the remains of primitive people.

The heroes’ journey ends abruptly when a waking volcano lifts them to the surface.
