In Jolk, two brothers, Aeson and Pelius, argued for power. As a result of a long struggle, the throne went to Pelius, who drove his less fortunate opponent and his son Jason from the city. As he matured, the young man decided to regain power over Iolcus.

The cunning Pelius did not dispute his nephew’s claim. He resolved to get rid of the young man by sending him to get the golden fleece that was kept in Colchis. The way to get the magical thing was full of dangers, and the fleece itself was guarded by a mighty dragon.

The architect Argo helped Jason to build his ship, and the ship was named after him. Many children and grandchildren of the great gods, Theseus and Heracles among them, set off on the dangerous voyage together with the young man. The sea through which the Argonauts sailed to Colchis was inhabited by terrible monsters and monsters. But the divine protectors guarded the heroes from their wrath. Thanks to the help of Medea, the daughter of the Colchis ruler, Jason succeeded in stealing the cherished fleece and returning safely to Ilk with it.
