Lab technician Sanya Dobryak discusses with his supervisor, Kaleria, the examination of Goya’s paintings with the help of an analyzer. The device only needs a molecule of skin on the surface to determine the author of the traces. The employees call it a molecular dog.

In the evening, Ivan, Kaleria’s ex-fiancé, comes to meet her classmates. She recalls an institute evening: Vanya was in a hurry to visit her sick mother and asked Oleg to see his fiancée off. He hints at a friend’s secret connected to a certain Vera. The girl quarrels with her lover.

The next day Oleg handed her a typed letter — the groom’s confession of adultery. Then Vanya calls, sends friends, writes, but all in vain. Lera marries Oleg. Now, 15 years later, it turns out that Ivan does not know any Vera.

At home, Kaleria finds that fateful letter among the papers. In the lab, she checks it with a molecular analyzer: Ivan never even touched that piece of paper. So there was no other woman. Lera realizes that his friend did it.
