Little Anya was not taken to the theater, leaving her with her godfather. He managed to pass the time by playing a children’s comedy with a box, glove, chubuk and uniform. The girl stopped regretting not going to the theater.

Dad, Mom, and the older children went to the theater. Little Anya was left at home in the care of her godfather. But he was an excellent storyteller, and also a poet.

The godfather put an empty box on the side — here’s your scene. He put a few books — the scenery is ready. Actors were chosen — not puppets and toys, but ordinary things: the Glove, the Boot, the Chubuk from the smoking pipe, the Uniform of Anja’s older brother.

The godfather immediately assigned roles. Chubuk became the stern father, Glove became the daughter, Uniform became the sweetheart groom, and Boots became the unsympathetic, imposing father. Anya expressed her desire to watch the comedy. And the godfather immediately presented the girl a play, and even in verse.

Chubuk wanted to marry his daughter off to Boots, as he was of good leather and the luster of the uniform, he thought, would fade after the first wash. But the Glove cried out pitifully to her lover. He displayed military valor and forced Chubuk to give his daughter in marriage to him.

Anya enjoyed the play very much.
