An acquaintance of the author, Viktor Maksimovich is an incorrigible romantic. His main dream — is to create a maholet, an aircraft powered by the pilot’s muscular power. But he also likes to talk over a mug of beer. In the stories, the author describes his meetings with the main character, passes on the stories told by Victor Maksimovich.

In the story «Zana» Victor Maksimovich tells about a wild girl Zana, which an Abkhazian peasant caught in the woods. Scientists have decided that Zana is a descendant of primitive people.

The story «Two Women» is the story of a Ukrainian girl, Clava, who miraculously escaped starvation and stayed in an Abkhaz village, in the family of Viktor Maximovich.

Victor Maksimovich also tells of his encounter with a hunter-sightseer. An Abkhazian shepherd was endowed with a mystical gift and always came back from the hunt with a prey. Victor Maksimovich asked the hunter to take him on a hunt with him.

In the story «The Taiga and the Sea,» Victor Maximovich recalls his life at Kolyma, in the harsh conditions of the taiga.
