Evtushevsky and Monsieur and Madame Podlinnik, who came to him for mousetraps, looked at the wonderful egg with amazement. Monsieur Podlinnik doubted its authenticity, but the egg had a branding indicating a 56th proof.

Monsieur and Madame Originals left, and Yevtushevsky began to wonder where the gold came from in the chicken.

By morning all of Kolokolamsk knew about the wonderful egg. A delegation went to Yevtushevsky’s house. During the night the old piper realized that the hen was full of gold and that it had to be slaughtered. Everyone began to think what to do with the chicken. The opinions were divided. They all decided to slaughter it. But while they were deciding, the chicken escaped.

The city began to beat the poultry, but no golden minced chicken was found. Evtushevsky was taken to the mental hospital, and during the search they found a second golden egg in his possession. It turned out that the piper’s father had left him an inheritance — hidden under the ceiling.
