After all the drama she has endured, Germaine becomes the Princess of Birch. Bamboche, a notorious scoundrel, kidnaps her son Jean. Under the guise of a baron, the bandit comes to the prince and promises to find the baby if Maria, Germaine’s younger sister, will marry him. The girl is ready to die of grief.

Bosco, the Prince’s family doctor, tracks down the pretend baron and recognises him to be the leader of a bandit gang, Bambos. The police arrest the scoundrel and send him to hard labour for life in Guiana. Leon Richard, a friend of the Berezovy family, is also imprisoned there. Germaine’s sister Bertha and her husband, on their way to France, linger in Guiana to take care of Richard. Bosco arrives there to help Leon.

A group of convicts, led by Bamboche, escapes from the penal colony in a captured ship. A military cruiser catches up with them and sinks the ship. A dozen convicts manage to escape. They hide in the jungle, but the fugitives are caught and returned to prison. Bambosh is helped to flee again, and his tracks are lost in the ocean.
