The main character is Fanny O’Dowda, who was the daughter of a wealthy aristocrat.

In its time, she decided to put on a play, a script for which she herself has made. To bring her own idea to reality, the young lady resorted to the services of experienced actors and invited competent critics. The described representative of the fair sex wanted to keep her authorship a secret. Mrs. O’Dowda understands that her father will disapprove of the work she has done because he does not like the vulgarity inherent in modern society. Before the production began, he returned to the United Kingdom after a vacation in the territory of Venice.

After viewing the play, the protagonist’s father was shocked by its content and said it offended his sensibilities. Critics also, to put it mildly, did not approve of the production. However, after Fanny acknowledged her authorship, everyone seriously softened their own positions.
