The second piece in the Enderby series.

The hero is rehabilitated in a psychiatric clinic after a failed suicide attempt. Here he is led to believe that he is a bartender. He has never written poetry, never sought recognition, and in general, he has dreamed everything. Enderby once again finds himself out of place, out of time. His ex-wife has left him with practically nothing and now he is forced to survive.

However, in the new Enderby the bartender awakens a poet. He has been put to sleep, but not killed. The hero begins reciting his poems by heart, though he still does not remember that he owns the authorship. One day, instead of making love to a woman, he goes to write poems on toilet paper.

Enderby is involved in a public assassination and flees to the East to escape. In Morocco, he takes a job at the bar of a rival creative past and takes charge of his inheritance. But the hero realizes that his muse is returning. In fact, he is not who he says he is.
