Vovka, a teenager, lives in the small railway village of Sortivka. The surrounding reality is depressing — grayness, squalor, boredom. The station is cluttered, not landscaped, everything is overgrown with thistles. But the local workers don’t care much, they drink moonshine, argue, and have fistfights.

One day, an unbelievable event shakes up the daily grind. The sorting house becomes the center of an intergalactic war. Representatives of an alien civilization rebel against the power of a usurper and dictator.

A quiet railroad station on the planet Earth is chosen as the headquarters for the rebels. The inhabitants of the settlement become participants in a fantastic adventure. When the space revolution ends and the aliens fly away, Sorting is once again plunged into a gray and dreary everyday life.
