Martin, who was injured at work, is practically covered in plaster. The man lives apart from his wife, but she takes care of him. He visits his spouse, falls, and is further injured.

The accident brings him and his wife Mary closer together, although there is a rift between the couple. For several months, they have been living apart and Mary is having a hard time bonding with her husband.

After spending the day with her husband, the woman goes home. Martin knows that she is going to meet the Frenchman Jory. Mary tells Martin that the Frenchman’s wife will be there, but her husband is jealous.

In the evening, the husband tries unsuccessfully to call Mary. Martin struggles to get to her house and falls down the stairs at his wife’s apartment. He suffers further fractures and ends up in the hospital.

Mary is worried about her husband. Jory comes to support her. The woman receives a call from the hospital and is told that Martin has been given sleeping pills and is asleep.

Jory stays overnight on Mary’s couch, but the woman calls the Frenchman into the bedroom.
