The ancient Greek city of Delphi was considered by ancient people to be the center of the earth. It appeared on the place where two eagles, launched by Zeus from opposite sides of the world, collided. For many thousands of years the patron of Delphi was the dragon Python, son of Gaia. The spawn of darkness lived in a deep canyon, guarding one of the divinities of the goddesses Hera and Themis.

At the behest of Zeus’ jealous wife, the Dragon kept Apollo’s mother awake for a long time. He forced the woman and her children to settle on the wild and desolate island of Delos.

As Apollo matured, he decided to take revenge on Python. He killed the beast with arrows from his silver bow. After the massacre of the Dragon, the god of light took Delphi under his patronage. A temple to Apollo was built in the city. And in a place near the cave of Python the young men began to compete in strength and dexterity, founding the Python Games in honor of the victory of the son of the main god of Olympus. Delphi has since become one of the richest and most beautiful cities in Greece.
