Ferran argues with the assertion that everything in life is rewarded and gives an example. He knew a costume jewellery dealer, an Italian nicknamed Chuck Chuck.

The merchant worked on the street almost without rest, economizing on everything and cherishing every penny. He devoted himself entirely to trade and tried very hard to sell as much goods as possible.

One day he came to an inn where his buddies were gathered. Chuck Chuck gave everyone a drink and told them that he had saved up a considerable amount of money and would soon be returning to Italy. His friends did not believe him, so he showed them the money.

The Italian drank a lot, went home and fell asleep. The next day he ran to his pals in tears. The trader told them that he had been robbed. Now the man did not even have money for a ticket. He was forced to walk all the way to Holland to get the goods to sell again.
