Captain Crocus by Fyodor Knorre. Short summary

The characters in the book unite to fight for their rights, for justice, and even for their own existence. They are helped in this by the brave circus tamer Captain Crocus and the kindly clown.

There was an old circus in one town. The children just adored it, but most of all they loved the merry clown Koko and his trained piglet, Peaches. The circus also had a Scarecrow, which the clown had made out of a garden scarecrow and made into a circus act. The scarecrow hated the clown, because when he saw Koko and Peaches, the children laughed, and when they saw Scarecrow, they cried.

Scarecrow constantly plagued the clown, trying to disrupt his performances. After one more unsuccessful attempt, the Scarecrow escaped from the circus and seized power in the town. Now all the toys and children’s books are burned in bonfires, and all the animals in the city are turned into scarecrows in a special factory. Here, people who disagree with the authorities are also stuffed, and all children are forced to take «adult courses.

The children Baby and Scrappy, the clown Koko and his piglet Peaches, and the tamer Captain Crocus decide to confront the Scarecrow. Despite the fact that a secret detective infiltrates their organization, the heroes manage to defeat the evil Scarecrow.
