Excerpts from one of Menand’s works that have survived to this day. Old Lacheth’s son Moschion seduced poor Cleaneth’s daughter. In his father’s absence and without his permission, the young man secretly married the girl.

In the last act, Lacheth returns. Moschion sends his friend Harey to the old man, who must delicately tell him what has happened. He first tells a fictitious story about the reprisal that threatened Moschion. She is supposed to prepare her father for the information about the wedding. Kleenet knows nothing of Lachet’s deception. When the two parents meet each other, Cleanet simply tells him everything as it is.
