God punishes the guilty Azrael with eternal life and wandering on earth. Here he falls in love with a mortal virgin, but she informs him that she must marry.

The immortal Azrael falls in love with the mortal Virgin. He waits for her at the mound, where the wind blows and everything is barren, just as it is in his soul. When they meet, the immortal does not tell her his name and asks her to call him «kindly.» The maiden begs Azrael to tell her who he is.

The immortal talks about his past life, in which he and the angels lived in a land like a forgotten paradise and could fly wherever he wanted. The protagonist searched for a being like him, but when he did not find one, he began to grumble against God. The Almighty punished him with eternal life, because of which Azrael was doomed to loneliness and wandering.

When the race of men has passed, and eternity has broken the earth, he will retire to the new world, where he will continue to mourn his fate. Azrael’s beloved says that she has come to bid him farewell, for she must marry.
