The protagonist is the author’s fictional king of Foggy Albion, whose name was Magnus. Despite the fact that he himself was a monarch, the man wanted to establish a republican form of government in Britain in order to later leave the throne, which did not please him, and take the post of the popularly elected prime minister.

Magnus’s main enemies were Prime Minister Proteus and his subordinates. The king’s opponents acted on behalf of Breakages Limited, whose leadership controlled British politicians and prevented the technical industry from effectively developing in order to protect their vested interests.

In the end, the king succeeded in outsmarting his competitors and depriving the monarchy of the remnants through which it was able to influence the situation in the British Isles.
